IPF Overview
The Integrated Processing Facility (IPF), formerly the Payload Preparation Room, was built for the Space Shuttle Program at a cost in excess of $300M. The building was designed to process three shuttle-class payloads simultaneously in 10K (ISO 7) class clean conditions. Today, payload processing activities are occurring on a regular basis.
The IPF can also support booster processing and administrative activities. The IPF has extensively upgraded since SSI has leased the building.
The IPF is one of the most capable payload processing facilities ever constructed. It is being optimized to take full advantage of its capability while reducing operational costs. The chillers and boilers have been modified to service actual facility loads with increased flexibility. Non-essential systems are powered down until actually required, and new digital systems have been installed to fully automate environmental control. Experience with this control system designed by Automated Logic Corporation has shown that clean room conditions can be maintained to very close tolerances, with minimal operator intervention. Extensive processing and technical areas can accommodate even the most auspicious booster/satellite processing scenarios. During processing of the EELV programs the IPF has maintained an operational Class 1000 (ISO 6) clean environment.
Building Layout
The IPF is a large building – two buildings actually. It has an Administrative Building and an Operations Facility.
Plan Views
IPF levels are all relative to the SLC-6 Pad Deck (Level 100). Personnel access between the Technical Support (Admin) Area and the Processing Area can occur only on Level 89. This section view is at Level 89. Click on the pictures below to go to plan views with links to specific areas in the IPF.

Cutaway View (Rotated)
This view is a cross-section of the IPF looking east. The Administrative Building is fairly simple to visualize since it has only three main floors - Level 59, Level 89 and Level 101. Operations Facility, however, has sixteen floors (including the Transfer Tower) and many corridors and doors.
